November

Your eyes are wide open
Hanging on every little word
Your heart listens as your soul
Through appetence is stirred

As you very well know
Inspiration comes not as sought
It’s the universe speaking to you
Amidst the noises of your thought

Whereas I usually pay no mind
This is yet another November
But this time, this time
I absolutely will remember

Through the forest you see no hills
But atop each crest others you’ll see
Pleased no more of where you stand
And knowing where you’d rather be

So it’s off to the next
Up, through the trees you dash
Climbing higher and granting
Naught eye to the snags you pass

Whereas I usually pay no mind
This is yet another November
But this time, this time
I absolutely will remember

The October sun was different
Casting jonquil shades upon drab leaves
What was new was not outside
It was closer than I’d conceived

You’ve got the whole world
In the palm of your hand
You’ve got more power
Than most others dream
And with unrelenting passion
Calmly, smiling, you stand
